Default My expierience with Savastore / Watford

On Monday I placed an order with Savastore for an Acer 5633WLMI notebook at
492 ex VAT + £ 4.65 + £ 13.99 delivery - then I decided to cancel as I saw a
model with the Geforce Go 7300 for 557 ex VAT.

So I phoned them and after 20mins or so got through to a lady who said my
order had already been cancelled as the address was not authorised (then I
remembered I hadn't changed my credit card address to reflect my new
address).

So I then reordered with my old address as the delivery address (which is my
mothers place) and ordered the model I wanted.... Then I saw a model with an
intergrated webcam and 20GB bigger hard drive for £ 7.50 more so I cancelled
the 2nd order and ordered a 3rd time.

Now the 1st order was cancelled, the 2nd order said held awaiting
cancellation so I emailed savastore to make sure they cancelled it and also
I wanted to make sure they deducted the VAT from the new order as I`m
located in the Channel Islands. I got no response to emails so I tried to
phone (this was the 2nd phone call) and after 20mins or so gave up then I
recieved an email saying my 2nd order had been cancelled - great.

So then I sent more emails requesting that the VAT be deducted from my
latest order but recieved no reply - but recieved an invoice and despatch
note via email (the invoice included the VAT) so unsure whether it had been
deducted I phone them a third time today and after 20mins got through to a
guy who it hadn't been deducted and he would deduct the VAT and refund my
account. Now I`ve since found out they savastore use a 10p per minute line
so I reckon I`ve racked up £ 7 in phone call charges.

I have also found out that I could of ordered it from acernotebooks.co.uk
and it would of worked out about £ 5 cheaper and I might not have had the
problems getting the VAT refunded... but you live and learn I guess. If
Savastore do indeed deduct the VAT as they said they would and I recieve the
item within the next few days it only works out about £ 13 more expensive
then acernotebooks.co.uk and thats including the 1hr phone calls to
savastore customer services.

Still cheaper then dabs.com by about £ 15 - £ 20 so I would say Savastore
aren't bad but they don't reply to their emails and seeing as the guy on the
phone said the VAT hadn't been deducted it seems as though they don't read
the emails and checking google it seems thats a common complaint and their
customer service line is 10p per minute.

So you can quickly rack up a sizeable bill on your phone trying to contact
them... I suppose its alright if you don't need to contact them and their
prices are good but for me getting the VAT deducted was a little tricky
becuase of the poor communication. Still if it arrives soon and the VAT has
been refunded I will be pleased.

Seems you place orders, and *only then* do what most people would call
*pre* purchase research.

Cancellation of two purchases, incorrect credit card address, VAT refund,
complain over 10p telephone charges, yet splash out on a laptop. What a pain!

Didn't know that Channel Islands isn't in the EU? All EU states pay VAT.

The Channel Islands are neither part of the European Union or the UK

FYI I emailed Savastore before placing the order but got no reply regarding
the VAT issue. Serves me right for buying from them I suppose.

Well I should be allowed to cancel orders and as long as they haven't
shipped it shouldn't be a big problem, the incorrect credit card address was
a mistake on my part on the 1st order I admit. VAT refunds for Channel
Island customers shouldn't be a big issue for big companies esp on an order
worth £ 684.44 where £ 101.94 of that was refundable VAT. I`m not too
concerned about paying the 10p per min charges on an order of this value -
as soon as the laptop is delivered I`ll soon forget how much it cost.

Also acernotebooks.co.uk aren't listed on froogle so I wouldn't have even
known about them except from a reply to a posting in uk.comp.sys.laptops -
They charge £ 24.95 for delivery to CI whereas Savastore charge £ 18.64 but
it is £ 552.32 ex VAT at acernotebooks.co.uk and £ 563 ex VAT at Savstore so
there's a £ 5 difference - I`d never even heard of acernotebooks.co.uk
beforehand so I`m not sure how big they are or how many orders they recieve
if their site isn't well known.

hahaha I`m not that bad surely I`m not slagging Savastore off just pointing
out a few issues that could be better but you get what you pay for with
regards to customer service so I`m not that surprised or peed off about it.
It costs £ 11 for the upgrade to Vista on this laptop bringing the total
cost to £ 593.50 ex VAT inc Delivery + £ 7 call charges so about £ 600. If
you pre-order the same laptop with Vista installed it costs £ 595 ex VAT + £
24.95 delivery from acernotebooks.co.uk so I`m still very pleased with my
purchase.

7dayshop.com are in Jersey, and charge VAT on items exceeding £18.00.
