Default HP 970Cxi color problem

Bob:

Thanks! The new one and the one I replaced was dated 11/6/01, a bit old! I
two more stashed elesewhere but these two are packaged in different colored
boxes. The one I replaced was in a mostly dark blue box. I looked at both
for dates and the format is different! These have "KASIA 01007" if I
remember correctly. Is that still 2001?

I have four black carts too still in old packaging too. I thought that the
color carts were inserted in the boxes orfice down but the black ones where
orfice up for sure. Which way should it be? I want to keep the one color
cart stored correctly not saying that it'll work though!!

Whoops! I forgot to mention that the color cart in the new packaging worked
just fine! Thanks again.

Haven't printed any color for some time but printed out some website

pages
yesterday. The pics on the pages are have a pinkish cast.

I uninstalled the software and updated to new drivers, etc. Installed a

new
color cartridge. [snip]
I did a test from MS Word with colored text. Blue prints pinkish, Red

is
Red but Yellow is nothing!

Anybody run into this? I was thinking of using some contact cleaner on

the
contacts for the color cartridge. What ya think about trying that? Or
should I be shopping for a new printer??

The problem is the cartridge, not the contacts. (For yellow to be missing
would require 8 separate pads to be open while the others are all OK)..

The
missing yellow (or other colors) can be caused by cartridges beyond their

life.
Check the warranty information on the cartridges as shown at the

following:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/printer.../bpa02014.html If the
cartridge is in warranty contact HP or your dealer for a replacement.

When
storing cartridges for a long time make sure to keep them stored upright

(as
they would be hanging on a store display) and keep in a cool place.

You can conform that the cartridge is the issue by carefully blotting the
cartridge on a soft damp tissue. You will see a stripe of cyan and

magenta,
but no yellow.

The black cartrdiges are stored nozzles up, the color cartrdige should be
stored nozzles down.

Is that the rule for all HP cartridges?
I'm using a 5550.

That is not quite the right format, but at one time the date format was

YYMMDD.
It looks like you have some very old cartrdiges....

Bob,

If you have unused colour cartridges that have been stored and are full of
ink and are not working try the following:

Place the cartridge in a (preferably clear) plastic bag with the nozzle area
towards one of the bottom corners. Gather the bag up around the cartridge
and tie the neck tightly with strong twine in such a way that the cartridge
ink nozzles stay pointing away from the knot into the corner, and leave
about four feet of twine after tying the knot. Go outside (important that)
and whirl it around about six to eight times so that a centrifuge effect
causes all three colours to flow. Clean it up gently as per instructions
at, for example I
used the following for my OfficeJet 1150c.

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/documen...Id=oj1150c&lc=
en&docName=bpu02176

This worked well for me. I won't carry spares much in future!

Cheers,

~Andrew
