Default DHL & Securicor

Just heard that the company who own DHL have bought out Securicor Omega.....

....wonder which way the service will go - good but expensive like DHL or
cheap and break everything like Securicor.

Mergers at least re couriers are as much re spreading the G&A over
a larger number of customer interactions. It doesn't always mean that
the service will suddenly collapse since that's down to the drivers &
the processing of parcels which is subject to human error.

www.parcel2go.com are still using Securicor & generally ok.

However, no matter who handles a parcel remember:
o Handling is based on weight
o Weight determines drop height

So if your item is light, assume a 48" drop height.
If your item is quite heavy, still assume a 24" drop height.

That means cases to computers to monitors dropped 24" on to concrete,
and 24" is a standard height from a Securicor to Parcelforce bumper to
floor.

The most arduous shock/impact experience is in shipping.
Those drop-heights are the minimum to assume, "extremes happen".

Re handling by weight I mean the likely drop height.
o Light parcels are more likely to be whizzed across a room
o Heavy parcels are more likely to be dropped from bumper height

That said, you have a point re size - it's a factor re handling.

For charging, charging by size would be interesting since for things
other than airmail it's potentially a win for some items (loss for others).

Post office soon compact monitors down for you anyway :-)
Seems to be a free service, they do it with inkjets too :-(

Well I used PCWorld for the first time (and last) a month ago.
Securicor-Omega cum DHL allege they have tried delivery 3 times and left
cards which is a bloody lie. I cancelled the order and am still trying
get a refund from PCWorld. So if DHL are going to improve Securicor,
it's yet to happen!
Nothing could improve PCWorld.
