Default Bi-directional support

I am trying to configure Bi-directional support for my HP 695c.
I am using windows 98, and a PCI printer port that supports EPP,ECP & BPP.

When I go to the spool settings on the printer driver, the
"enable bi-directional support" options are grayed out.

What do I have to do to enable these?

Is it enabled in the BIOS? Read the system manual to find out how to change
settings.

I dont think that is the problem, as I have another (for a different type of
printer)driver installed, and on that one the bi-directional option is not
grayed out.
