Default eSata for Laptop

I'm finally playing with eSata on my laptop, but I don't know what the rules are for connecting and disconnecting the external drive. Any opinions? Thanks.

I found the answer. The drive appears as if it is a USB device. You
can "eject" it and then power it down.
