Weirdly cool
6-yr old Tatung Induction Cooktop
1500watts approx Quit. Error lites pwr levels 2&3 blinking. No fan unit. Ordered out another unit. (Different manuf.) Put Tatung next to trash - going to pull heavy duty pwr cable/wires I'd added. Curious, dead fan - so threw in a PC fan. My worst - 586 days. Runs like hell, the fan, never really shuts off. Which is weird logic (two leads). But, hey -- the Induction started working again. It'll cook food. Also noticed on the edges to the cooking surfaces (adjacent coils and magnets for induction assembly), underneath, and inside the plastic on two sides is melted slightly deformed from overheating. Hm. Not bad for 5 years+ beating on a $50US Chinese Tatung Induction Unit. Me and it, we got some miles covered. And it's still limping along. Oh, well. Got a backup now. (Not going to stop the order in case the Tatung does actually break, blow up and send plastic shard exploding through the ceiling, or something). |

The fan, though it has it working again, doesn't quite fully function, as it's still shutting itself down, same error code, except it's a delayed trigger event now. Garbage time, Tatung. No more fans for you. These are the latest and greatest units: DUXTOP 1800-Watt Portable Induction Cooktop Countertop Burner 8100MC $59.99 . Take four of them, drill four holes and mount into the top of a cabnet, to save $400-$800 over a namebrand countertop induction range unit. Skip the $2000 installation tag, too. Just make sure there's enough juice. Each one draws 15 amps fully turned up. |
