CPU temp difference between 2400 and 2700
All other things equal, what would you expect the CPU idle temp difference
(if any) to be between an AthlonXP 2400 (266FSB) and a 2700 (333FSB)? Would you think a 5-6F lower ambient and better ventilated case would result in a 19C lower CPU temp for the 2400? |

The CPU-Z descriptions are identical. The 2700 is actually running at slightly lower voltage (1.60 vs 1.63 according to CPU-Z). Mobos are very similar Epox, same nVidia nForce2-400 chipset. The case temp of the 2700 also runs substantially hotter, 35-39C, at 68-72F ambients. Case temp on the 2400 box is currently at 24C at an ambient of 68F (it's in the basement). 2400 using a stock AMD heatsink, the 2700 has an all copper Thermalright. Prior to getting the 2700 chip, I was using an 1800 with a Via KT266a chipset. It ran 27-28C case temp and 37-39C CPU (at idle) temps in the exact same setup as the 2700. As soon as I installed the 2700, the case and CPU temps rose about 10C. The system is stable but I've never been able to figure out what caused the significant increase in case/CPU temps. |
