Default Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro Warning

For those of you who aren't aware, Sapphire recently released a cut-down
version of the Radeon 9800 Pro and cleverly decided to call it a 'Radeon
9800 Pro'.

This has lead to a lot of confusion for both customers and retailers, who
apparently have been selling this card believing it to be a 'real' 9800 Pro,
unaware of the fact that it's actually a crippled and inferior product.

A real 9800 Pro has a 256bit memory bus and a core / memory speed of 380 /
680.

The Sapphire 9800 Pro has a 128bit memory bus and a core / memory speed of
325 / 580.

I was unfortunate enough to receive one of these Sapphire cards as a
replacement for a RMA'd real 9800 Pro and the difference in performance was
obvious within a few seconds of loading up a game.

Sapphire issued a press release a few days ago, apologising for the
confusion and stating that they would rename the card and make it clear that
it was a 128bit version.

So, if anyone has bought one of these cards in the last few weeks believing
it to be a proper 9800 Pro, you may want to check to see exactly what you've
got. Aida32 will display the speeds and whether it's 128bit or256bit.

Thanks. But my Sapphire 9800 Pro matches the 'proper' specs (Aida 32 - cool
program) and only has 128MB !

The Sapphire 9800 Pro's over a month old should be fine, it's just the newer
ones that are currently being sold that you need to look out for.

Indeed. 'Heads-down' are as least as important as 'Heads-up'.
