Default maxtor Sata drive won't format into NTFS (fat32 works)

Dear all,

My Maxtor 6y120m0 drive won't format into NTFS while it will format
into fat32.

I get the error "The format didn't complete"

It's an 120Gb drive. It works in windows XP without problems (also in
NTFS), but in windows 2003 (different system) it won't.

My specs:
GA-6vxe7+ ( MO )
Silicon-image 3112a S-Ata Controller
6y120m0 maxtor HD (120Gb s-ata)
Windows 2003

All drivers/software and firmware has been updated.

I'v tried the 48Bits LBA patch, but in this case i assume it is
unnessesary for the drive is not bigger than 137Gb.

The drive is guaranteed bad sector free. ( i'v tested this; sector
scan)

Thanks in advance,

Sincere,

Joord

Did you try the "convert" command?

e.g. Boot up using fat32 open a dos prompt and type

"convert c: /FS:NTFS" (without the qoutes)

Dear Bill,

No, i've not tried that.
Though i've tried make an NTFS partition in WINDOWS XP (another system)
and than use the HD in the 2003 machine. 2003 destroys the partition.
Same with special Maxtor-tools ( to clone an partition, or format ).

I'm lost here. It's like 2003 doesn't understand NTFS on this s-ata-HD or something.

Thanks in advance,

Yours,

Joord
