What caught my eye was the 1meg l2 cache and no heat spreader...

If this is a pin for pin match to a 754 processor, it may be a real buy
because of the larger cache.

Unless you plan on overclocking this from 1.8 to 2.2, you'd be better off
with the cheaper 3200+ (2.2GHz w/512K) IMO.

Clock speed is way more important in this case. The extra cache will only
improve performance in certain apps. The 3200+ at 2.2Ghz will outperform
the 3000+ with the large cache at 1.8GHz by a large margin.
