Mobo On-Board Sound + PCI Sound Card?
I have a motherboard (LX BN790E) with on-board sound (Avance AC97). I also
have a Creative Sound Blaster PCI card. I would like to make use of and have both sound devices installed on my machine simultaneously. My problem is that whenever my SB PCI card is installed Windows XP doesn't recognise my on-board sound, yet when I remove my SB PCI card the mobo on-board sound works fine. Does anyone know how I can get both working at the same time and/or what the problem is? |

It's never easy to get a dual sound card setup in windows.try moving the sound card to another slot.Windows was never designed to run more than one sound system and even if you get both cards running you may only be able to use one for certain functions and the other for the other functions. One isn't actually a "card"... it's built into the mobo. try moving the sound card to another slot. Do you think it's worth moving the single PCI card? Windows was never designed to run more than one sound system and even if you get both cards running you may only be able to use one for certain functions and the other for the other functions. I need it for software which is designed to use two sound output devices. Also check the Device Manager using Safemode as per, http://www.geocities.com/sheppola/drivers.html The problem I have though is that XP doesn't even *detect* the mobo on-board sound (i.e. no entry in device manager) when the PCI card is in... surely it would have to have an entry in the device manager before I could adjust any of the setting as specified in that link? |

I'd use the SB card as the primary device. |

Hi,
there is no problem. It's that on cheaper computer installations without a separate sound card you just use the generally inferior but adequate on board sound. If you then purchase a seperate higher quality sound card you turn off the on-board sound via a DIP switch. Why do you want or need to run both together? Your system can only output sound to one audio device at a time anyway so disable your on-bnoard sound and use your better SB card. CJ "John E" wrote in message ... It's easier in Win9X/ME than in XP if the BIOS has the option to disable ACPI.XP not only has ACPI enabled by default but also APIC.If you can disable these options in your BIOS and then do a repair install of XP you should then be able to manipulate the IRQs.This is a very specialist area.I've had dual sound card setups running in Win9X/ME but never tried with XP yet :/ -- Free Windows/PC help, http://www.geocities.com/sheppola/trouble.html email shepATpartyheld.de Free songs download, http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/nomessiahsmusic.htm |

The on-board sound uses one of the PCI slots internally and if you have the SB plugged into the same slot (MB hardware dependent), both cannot work. Try moving the SB card to another PCI slot. Un-install it first; shut down, move the card, then turn the system on and re-install it. |

XP is designed to use only ONE soundcard source; in your case you can use
EITHER the onboard or the Creative, not both. -- DaveW "John E" wrote in message ... I have a motherboard (LX BN790E) with on-board sound (Avance AC97). I also have a Creative Sound Blaster PCI card.
