RAID 1 maintenance?

I have a dell poweredge 1750 with raid 1 mirroring across two drives. Am I
suppose to do anything to maintain it? Like run a consistency check once in a
while? Its been running flawlessly for about a year now and I've done
nothing. I check it with dellmgr (under linux) and it says all is good, but I
don't actually run any check ever.

For the most part, any good RAId controller will keep tabs on things. And if
you're using enterprise class drives, they also have self-reporting features
(most desktop class drives do as well, but not as advanced).

However, it's still a good idea to once in a while run chkdsk (or whatever
utility your OS supports). If you suspect something, get the diagnostic
utility from the hard drive manufacturer and run it.

Check your raid manager logs periodically, and if it has an
option to warn you, set that to do so. You should scan the
drives periodically as well and still make offline backups
of the data as prudent.
