Default GeForce 8800 drivers & WHQL

Hi,

I downloaded and installed the latest 8800 drivers for Windows XP - version
158.22.
However, I noticed that they are not WHQL approved, can this lead to
stability problems ? I find this a bit strange, since these are not beta
drivers, just the one that are available from the NVidia website. If i'm not
mistaken the older drivers were WHQL qualified.

No. It merely means that nVidia haven't paid the Microsoft Tax.

I've installed these drivers...and the new ntune. Haven't noticed any
changes to be honest, except now I can't change my fan speed on the
GPU. The option is all greyed out.

The last version, 158.18, released in mid-April, was also not certified and
was also tagged as "Beta".

The last WHQL drivers was 100.something-or-other that came and went a
couple months ago.

The last WHQL drivers were 158.18. They did release 158.18 betas, and
followed them on quickly with WHQL versions.

Think for a moment about who actually grants WHQL approval - Microsoft.
Microsoft doesn't have a good track record for releasing stable products to
begin with, so WHQL means nothing.

Beta 158.18 was released around April 18 (not sure of the exact day).

WHQL version of 158.18 was released on May 2nd. The same day tbat beta
158.24 was released.
