Default Ship from US gotchas?

I was just thinking how wonderful life was, when Ian Ozenthroat
opened his gob and said:

No it will not be liable to duty or VAT as it is a GIFT from your son, get him to label it
as such if required.


I lived abroad for a while, and everything sent from abroad was
labeled as a gift and that country's C&E were wise to all the ruses.
