Default Burning stutters and freezes computer for 10 seconds

Using nero 7, xp 64. Have 2 plextor drives - 755sa. One has original
firmware, the other the latest. No device manager flags, they are
working fine in terms of speed...

I start burning, If I'm playing a movie or something, it severely
stutters and/or freezes for about 10 seconds. Everything returns to
normal and the disc completes the burn. This is very annoying...

running with a core 2 duo 6600, 850 psu, 2 gigs ram - lots of power...

any suggestions ?

thanks

A question right back: How is the quality of the disc you are burning
when this happens? Does it show degradation?

I would suggest when this happens that you bring up Task Manager (right
click on any unused spot it the task bar) and see if anything else
(virus checker, etc) is running. Just a thought.

Are you watching the movie from one drive while burning to the other? And
are they on the same IDE channel?

thanks for your responses...

The burn seems to be fine, it happens at the exact same stage
everytime - just after it spins up and starts burning
Because its repeatable, its not something else running the background
- I have loads of resources...and its happened 20 times...
They are sata drives, so no master and slave and movies are playing
from the hard drive

I'm thinking it may be nero but likely the drives. I should try some
other software and see what happens

cheers
