Default A8N-E spontaneous shutdown?

I have a PC containing an ASUS A8N-E, and, it keeps spontaneously
shutting down, no matter whether I am in Windows or Mac OS X. Is it due
to a bad mobo, is it the power supply or is there anything else I
should check?

It coud be the power supply. What make and model is it?
Did that problem just start happening or has it done
since being built?

Is the northbridge fan spinning? - they last abut 3 months on average.

First, what do you mean by "shutting down" ? Does the computer go
to a black screen, power goes off, and only pressing the reset button
or flipping the power switch on the back of the computer, fixes it ?
Or are you saying the computer spontaneously reboots, in other
words, it goes to black screen, then the BIOS POSTs, then the
computer boots back into Windows, all without you touching it ?

Give a complete inventory of parts in the computer. If your
power supply is a no-name supply, provide a URL to the web
site page where you bought it.

At the very least, read the label on the side of the power
supply. It will say 3.3V @ 20A, 5V @ 25A, 12V @ 15A and
so on, and those are the numbers we need, to judge whether the
supply is adequate. That information, plus an inventory of
all the power-consuming hardware.

This could be a memory problem, in which case you should
download memtest86+ from memtest.org and try that first.

If you suspect a temperature problem, you should load
Asus Probe and take some temperature readings.

Off the thread, but how are you running OS X on the A8N-E? I have the same
board and I would love to know.

TIA,
