Default Opinions on budget mobo

I have a 2500+ Barton that i want to oc to 3200+. I am looking for a simple
mobo around 60 dollars or so that will overclock nicely, and has 8x agp,
400fsb, and decent onboard sound...

The last board the cpu was in was an abit NF7-S. The mobo was fried by
lightning, however the components ended up being good(RAM, Vcard etc)... i
don't know whether maybe it had some safety features to salvage everything
else.. but it did. The thing is, i don't have another mobo to test the cpu
to see if it's good. Should i assume that the cpu is still good since
everything else but the mobo is still in perfect condition? If so, i don't
want to spend another 80-100 dollars for this cpu. I just need the speed,
and decent sound without all the sata stuff and other bells and whistles.

The mobo was fried by lightning,

Note to self - do not take mobo into field for overclocking during a
lightning storm.
Either that, or install circuit breakers in house before more equipment
fries!

Sorry to hear about your loss :-(

It happened during the night. I was asleep. My PC is always on. I have a
decent power strip with safety measures, which didn't help. I don't have the
money for expensive alternatives, hence the search for a budget mobo

Maybe you could get a surge suppressor with an equipment insurance
guarantee.

Or a UPS. Like an APC 700. But I guess you're broke right now.

Biostar M7NCD, Nforce 2. I've used probably 12 of them. Approx $45US.

Shuttle AN35 Ultra 400. I have an Athlon XP 2500 overclocked to a 3200
simply by changing FSB to 200.
