Default Board doesn't recognize SATA drive

I'm a complete newbie to SATA, so I don't know if there's a problem
with my drive, motherboard or the way I'm setting it up.

I'm trying to install my Maxtor Diamondmax 10 (100gb) drive with an
Asus P4P800se (Intel chipset) motherboard. The bios doesn't see the
drive unless I set it up under IDE configuration "Confiigure S-ATA as
RAID" as "Yes". I can't just leave it as "Enhanced Mode Support On -
SATA" or it doesn't find the drive.

I don't want to run a RAID configuration as I plan to add a larger
SATA drive in the future. How do you setup SATA?
