Default Overclockers UK are rip off merchants

I bought an MSI K7N2 motherboard from Overclockers UK as a replacement
for my existing damaged board.
After installing the board, et al, my machine still would not boot,
calling an error in the RAM, and beeping like buggery.
I bought a new RAM stick from someone other than OcUK, because they
were cheaper. This seemed to work fine after installation, but now the
motherboard called an error with the CPU, and still wouldn't even get
as far as the BIOS.
I bought a new CPU from a computer fair as I was now becoming
impatient in getting my system back up and running.
The new CPU didn't work.
I had the original RAM and CPU checked, and the new RAM and CPU
checked. All are fine.
The new motherboard OcUK sent me is faulty however.
And has caused me not only delay in the repair of my system, but also
unnecessary expenditure on other hardware.
I'm not a happy bunny.
They came highly recommended, but on my first purchase have managed to
seriously disappoint and inconvenience.

There is no reply to the e.mails I sent. Their customer service seems
permanently engaged.
When I did get through they refused to send a prepaid returns parcel,
expecting me to pay for the return of their faulty hardware.
Having spent £170 on needlessly replacing perfectly functioning CPU
and RAM they refused any kind of compensation.
Even if it had been bought from them.
Even in form of vouchers for their own store.

DO NOT shop at overclockers UK. They're crap!

Hi,

I been shopping with them for years and never had an issue that wasn't
resolved. I can understand why you may be frustrated with their
phone-support. I gace up on that along time ago and manage to get
everything sorted via email.

I have returned a motherboard to them once, I had to pay for shipping it to
them, but it only cost £5.00, which is nothing really.

Calm yourself down (a walk in the fresh air can do wonders!) then drop a
line to

They will issue you with an RMA, then just mail it back to them and wait.
When I sent my board back they asked for me to just include the mobo
*barebones* in an anti-static bag, and to keep all the cables and stuff!

I hope it is your board that is faulty (can happen) cause it sounds like you
put yourself through-the-mill over this situation!

Many people including myself have had bad experiences with overclockers uk
(others have not). There is a review website somewhere which lists all sorts
of sites, and customers comments - my bad experience with overclockers uk
was identical to almost everyone else's. I had two out of two motherboards
with faults on them (I kept the second one as it worked well enough and
constant spending on returns was making the purchase expensive). However
the matter was (eventually) resolved to my satisfaction.

However, I must confess that what seemed to be their policy of attempting to
palm off returns as new kit was in my experience the cause of all the
problems - they sent me already broken ram (that had been returned at least
once by the packaging) and an already broken motherboard and it took about 3
months from the initial order to get it all sorted.

Unless they have an extra special deal - I will not be using them again as I
just want an easy life.

I've not had problems myself, but I've never trusted them with anything more
technically complex than a H/S and fan. I had a friend at university who
got some seriously faulty kit from them, some RAM that didn't work and a
motherboard that made a CPU go pop. He had all kinds of problems getting
his money back.

Scan.co.uk (or Scam.con as I call them) are another one to miss. I brought
what was advertised as a hardware modem off them, once it arrived it had a
pretty blatant sticker saying "win modem" on it. I phoned them, and after a
century or so on hold I got through to a bloke who "couldn't find the order
in the system" and would ring me back within 20 minutes. Of course he never
did. In the end it took me a few months, my credit card company, and the
trading standards to get me my money back. And I still never got postage
back off them, for my return or the original postage.

Although I can understand your feeling, I believe this reaction is a little
bit "extreme"!
I don' t want to argue about OcUK, never worked with them. But in this case,
the only bad thing that appears in your message is the slow service
response. They don't build the MSI mobo, and a bad part is always possible.
They are surely not expected to open the packaging and test all the parts
they are selling. It' s normal they charge you for transport costs, when you
see the small benefit they make on the sales. After all, they are a
commercial enterprise, not a charity company.
And it's normal again they refuse any compensation for your CPU or RAM, as
those replacements are the result of your erroneous diagnostic, which is
part of the risc of PC "self-assembling".
Would you expect compensation from your garage if you replaced the tyres
because the radiator was leaking?

Probably agree with you... however few dealers are perfect.

OC UK are okay until you get a duff item and it needs to be replaced.

I bought a 9800 Pro card from them which was faulty, it took loads of phone
calls and a very long journey to get it replaced.... what's more the replacement
looked like it had been in/out of the box a hundred times, but in fairness at
least it worked and is still in use.

Would I use them again..... probably not....load of grief when things don't
work!

OCUK are a victim of there own success, they dont have enough staff to man
the phones or emails, so as most other people have said and you've found
out, returns CAN be a right pain in the backside...

But on the ordering side of it, delieveries are generaly VERY good and
prompt, IE buying something at 4pm wednesday SOMETIMES gets deleived
thursday morning.... No other company have such a fast turn around in this
department...at least what ive dealed with.

Prices are "good" although there graphics card section makes £30-100 profit
per card vs other shops so ive never brought a gfx card from them......dabs,
lowestonweb, scan, are all cheaper here

and PS DONT moan on the forums, it will only make you more angery as you get
banned, the forums are paid for by OCUK, but are NOT a way of contacting
them, only 2 people that work at OCUK post on the forums (Gibbo, and
SPIE/Mark himself)
