So...how does the duct come up and out of a Dimension 2300?
Hello all..
This should be such a simple question, but I haven't figured it out. I picked up a Dell Dimension 2300 (as well as another Dell system*) off of the curb. After replacing a fan, wiping the hard drive and seriously cleaning the case, it's good to go once again. I always wondered about the difference between a Dimension 2300 and 2400...as it turns out, the 2300 seems to be a lot like the 4500 in that it lacks onboard Ethernet hardware. Though both machines have the solder pads for such hardware (and maybe some models have it???) they are not populated. My question is...how is the duct over the CPU/rear case fan meant to be opened? This is extremely easy and obvious on every other Dell model that uses one, including the whole of the Mitac case series (23x0, 2400, 4600, 4700, 170L, B110) but it's not on this model. Every time I've tried to lift it open, it binds up on the black plastic body that holds the fan. The only way I've managed to get it off is to pop the green hinge assemblies off and sort of lift it out of the way. Dell's service manual is no help, it only says to "lift the air duct up" and gives no guidance as to how. William * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXC6HS5E6sE |

Hi!
Pictures are found here at Dell. Those pictures don't show the actual air duct. They only depict removal of the CPU heatsink, which I do not need or want to do. William |
