Default HDD got bad sector in MBR

Is there any possibility to mark this sector as unreadable and move
(make new) MBR in the other area of the HDD??
It can't be detected when I connect via USB cable to the WinXp.
The HDD is Seagate Barracuda ATAIII ST340824A

Yes, the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic should be able to make the drive do that.

That will usually lose all data on the drive tho.

You should be able to force the drive to remap that sector
by writing just that sector to the drive with an MBR ute.

Simplest to use Seagates SeaTools, but that may lose some data because its unlikely
that just that sector has gone bad. Its much more likely to be more than one.

No. If the MBR are is unreadable, the HDD is unusable.
Your only hope is to get the HDD to transparently
replace it. Typically overwriting it will do that.

Well, WinXP is a toy that will bail out on a lot of
not really serious problems. Are you sure the MBR sector is
bad?

SeaTools helped!
Many bad sectors found but HDD is still useful for keeping less
important things such as .jpg or .mp3
THANKS-A-LOT!!!

Try the following.

In Windows Disk Management, try assigning a drive letter to the drive, do
not reformat.
That might fix the MBR, and, if you are lucky, all files may still be
intact.

I have a Barracuda ATA Model ST340824A and need to get a USB to ATA
adapter cable to see what I can pull off this old drive. Any idea which
is the correct adapter to buy would be?
