HDD got bad sector in MBR
Is there any possibility to mark this sector as unreadable and move
(make new) MBR in the other area of the HDD?? It can't be detected when I connect via USB cable to the WinXp. The HDD is Seagate Barracuda ATAIII ST340824A -- ven |

Yes, the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic should be able to make the drive do that. That will usually lose all data on the drive tho. You should be able to force the drive to remap that sector by writing just that sector to the drive with an MBR ute. It can't be detected when I connect via USB cable to the WinXp. The HDD is Seagate Barracuda ATAIII ST340824A Simplest to use Seagates SeaTools, but that may lose some data because its unlikely that just that sector has gone bad. Its much more likely to be more than one. |

Your only hope is to get the HDD to transparently replace it. Typically overwriting it will do that. It can't be detected when I connect via USB cable to the WinXp. Well, WinXP is a toy that will bail out on a lot of not really serious problems. Are you sure the MBR sector is bad? Armno |

I have a Barracuda ATA Model ST340824A and need to get a USB to ATA adapter cable to see what I can pull off this old drive. Any idea which is the correct adapter to buy would be? |
