Default Vista Ultimate

I just installed Vista Ultimate on a laptop that had Vista Home
Premium on it, so I thought I'd post a blurb about it.

1) The _only_ benefit for me is that Vista Premium doesn't have
Remote Desktop, so by installing Vista Ultimate (student copy) I now
have that.

2) I thought I'd benefit from bit locker to encrypt my hard disk,
however people here previously pointed out to me that a hard drive
password (which can be set in the bios) provides adequate security.
Also, in order to use bit locker, there has to be a component
installed in the computer which none of mine have.

I would not have upgraded to Ultimate if I didn't have my $89 student
copy. This is, however, $89 that I shouldn't have had to spend.
Remote Desktop should have been part of Vista Home Premium.

(I did use Real VNC, but I prefer Remote Desktop)

Doesn't Vista Ultimate also have fax software? A feature that is
annoyingly missing from Vista Premium.

Yes -- both Ultimate and Business have Windows Fax and Scan.

Ultimate has Hold'em Poker (big deal, lol no pun intended).

It also has Dreamscape, a way to make a video your desktop background.
Another example of MS effort expended on a mostly useless feature
(like most of Aero).

The fact that I would want to ditch MS and go elsewhere but can't
because there is no viable alternative shows that MS is a monopoly
that shouldn't be allowed to continue as one. (however, I don't have
any answers to that, and dealing with a MS monopoly is much more
complex than any past measures for ATT, IBM, Standard Oil, etc)

If you have "Vista HP", is is possible to get the Windows Fax and Scan
software plus Dreamscape, from MicroSoft?

I don't know, but I don't think so. It seems like MS took some very
basic yet useful features and created the Ultimate edition so people
would have to spend extra on it just to obtain things that should have
been part of Vista Business and Vista Premium.

I can't use the fax feature because I use a Treo 680 cell phone as my
only phone and I don't think I can fax from it even though it has
bluetooth and can connect to the laptop (something for the Palm
forums).

Fax capability should be included in all editions. Maybe there is
still a fax printer you can print to but the Ultimate edition has a
premium versio of it (I'm too lazy to check my Vista Business machine
right now).

Windows XP Windows Media Center Edition (MCE) has Remote Desktop.
Vista Home Premium has the MCE features in it, but MS took out Remote
Desktop. That's totally ridiculous because in a home network it's
useful to be able to access the other PCs.

Yes I agree, MS should have include the Fax & Scan, but with EVERY
version. I always get asked to fax a document to someone.
I would really prefer a change in procedures from companies that
are on the Internet. I would like to see people scan there documents
into PDF format, then email the damn things to the company's instead.
I believe it would save a hell of a lot to time and money not to
have to use the slow speed of a fax machine and basic dialup phone.
(just a little pet peeve of mine, can't we modernize folks?)

I agree -- creating a .pdf and sending it via e-mail is preferable for
me.

Some documents would need to be scanned in though so for those having
a fax eliminates that time-consuming task -- and it would be very time
consuming and reduce productivity (oh go*, I am sounding like a Human
(really inHuman) Resource person.

Some people that I need to send documents to do accept e-mail
attachments, but others insist on fax.
