Thanks for all the time you are spending on my problem. Helene, half-pint knows next-to-nothing about PCs. He's just a lonely guy trying to get attention. I see he has insulted you further down the thread with very little, if any provocation. Of course you are welcome back here anytime. Not by me she isn't. Since when did you have permission to speak for all the people in group? Your presumption of grandeur is wrong as is the rest of the ******** you talk. The only thing you appear to have got correct is your moniker. The thing about usenet is that you get idiots in groups. If you need further info anytime in the future I suggest you look at some previous posts and see who the *really* helpful, knowledgable people are. The Mad Hatter is helpful, he's just a bit brash at times and can jump to conclusions, Kony is excellent, Cerridwen is usually good too. There are others (sorry if I missed you guys, I was just going by who's posts are showing in my NG client at present). Glad you fixed your friend's problem. You seem like a helpful person. Well she certaintly won't be getting any advice from me, whether she values it or not. Her attitude to other people stinks and what stinks even more is that she doesn't even realise it, and thats not to mention her other problem(s). I think she is pretty pathetic really. -- ~misfit~ |

Thank you for the nice words and great advice about usenet. I have used
newsgroups occasionally for different types of information and have always found people to be helpful and very unselfish in the giving of their time and expertise. The same holds true for most everyone in this group. I won't let a couple of bad apples spoil the barrel. Helene "~misfit~" wrote in message ... Helene wrote: "half_pint" wrote in message ... If you had read more carefully, you would have seen that I answered bearman immediately with what I had found out and offered to post more information if anyone was interested. NO ONE ASKED!!! Fortunately I have found most of the people who answered me were kind and helpful. You apparently are the one with the problem!! Yes stupid ignorant ****ers like you, however it is easy enough for me to get rid of my problem. Yep, a shotgun in the mouth should do it. -- ~misfit~ |

Thanks Trent. I'm sorry you went to all this trouble to help me get my
friend out of her situation. As I posted below, we have pinpointed the problem to a Gateway glitch with GoBack, the software that helps repair/recover when things go wrong (ironic it seems to me). The solution is to disable GoBack, which allows Windows to open. Then she can go to the Gateway support site to download a patch. We haven't had a chance to try it yet because she hasn't been available for a few days. As soon as she's free we will give it a try. Helene "Trent©" wrote in message ... It doesn't make any difference in the start up, though. You changed WHAT settings to 'none'? ALL of them? Set them all to 'automatic'. Did you ever tell us what operating system they're running? Get a Windows 98 rescue disk...boot into it. Then change over to the C drive. If yer able to do that, then run that scandisk. Make sure you set the tab of the floppy disk to 'read only' before you use it. You've got some process or application that's trying to find the 'slave drive'. It could easily be a trojan or virus. Since you know how to install motherboards, you should know how to install/work with hard drives. So... If you can see the C drive (per above), take that drive out of their case and put in into your case as the master on the secondary controller. Make sure you have the jumper set correctly. Then run all your usual security checks on it from your computer...your anti-virus program, Ad-Aware, CW Shredder, HiJack This, etc. Then put it back in their machine and let us know. Good luck. Have a nice week... Trent What do you call a smart blonde? A golden retriever. |
