wrote in message ups.com... I need a new usb port. I was wondering how hard it is to replce it or if that can be done? You can purchase a PCI to USB card, that you plug into a spare slot on your motherboard. Here`s an example http://kryton.clickandbuild.com/cnb/...dCategoryID=23 HTH. |

replaceing a usb port
The USB ports on a computer are permanently attached to the motherboard and
cannot be replaced. You would need to buy a USB PCI card and install that in one of your computer's open slots at the back. -- DaveW ---------------- wrote in message ups.com... I need a new usb port. I was wondering how hard it is to replce it or if that can be done? |

replaceing a usb port

The problem is getting a spare. But ... it's a lot easier to just get a pci card. If things are shorting together and your computer is crashing, you can remove the port. Or separate the shorting wires. |

Or separate the shorting wires. That could end up being a pain to get off with a soldering iron due to the plated holes and the metal shell soldered to the ground plane. IMO a hot air gun would be much easier and might make it as easy to cannibalize some ports off an old retired board rather than hunting one down. I think Foxconn has a samples program though, they might send a free sample or there's always digikey catalogs to wade through. |
