Ordinary contact cement will do just fine. I have used it to glue teflon skid pads onto carpet cutting tools. Later I was able to remove/replace them after they had worn down from use. True it takes a little longer to use as you have to put some on both the mouse and the glide, wait for them to dry and then stick them together, but it will work. Just be sure to use a little alcohol to clean the mouse surface where the glue is going to go first. Done and done. I was a little surprised how this glue is so mucous-like. I can't imagine spreading it on a larger area. Did I get a bad batch or something? Probably, sort-of. It's called DAP Weldwood Contact Cement. It specifically states it works well with plastic laminates, and it looks like it will work for me in this application. Beyond that, though, I don't know where I can use it. Some contact cements are thicker than others. One variant of Weldwood is a gel and would be pretty thick but a uniform consistency: http://www.dap.com/product_details.a...=47&SubcatID=8 Another Weldwood variant is nonflammable due to being water based and could be thinned by just adding some water yourself, though I would use pure water rather than tap water: http://www.dap.com/product_details.a...=48&SubcatID=8 The more common traditional product most think of as contact cement would be this variant: http://www.dap.com/product_details.a...66&SubcatID=10 It's solvent is highly evaporative, to thin it you would use the same chemicals as found in their retail thinner product MSDS: http://www.dap.com/docs/msds/00031001_english.pdf If you have just bought it, they probably sold you old stock or it was put in an inadequately sealed container such that over time too much solvent evaporated away. Sometimes the shelf life on contact cement isn't too good, the little bottles I buy I like to store sealed in a ziplock baggie with all the air squeezed out. The initial consistency is supposed to be completely uniform and roughly as thick as pseudo-maple syrup. If yours is not like this then personally I'd take it back for a refund, or an exchange if they can prove they have a replacement that is newer stock instead of the same shipment. Otherwise you have paid a premium for one application as it will only get thicker and harder to use. |
