40pin FC-AL Fibre / Fiber Channel Hard Drive
I've recently come into possession of some Fibre Channel 40 pin drives
(ST3146807FC). These are FC-AL, unfortunately I misinterpreted the specs on a controller I was looking at before I snagged the drives. Any suggestions as to what sort of host controllers I might look at and/or suggestions for shelves/enclosures/adapters? I've got 8 drives, ideally I'd run 4 per server across two servers, although if the cost difference is substantial I could put them on a single box. |

Look for QLogic and Emulex FC RAID controllers... Maybe there is something... Also, watch out for the drive low-level formatting... If they're formatted as 520 bytes per sector, than those are EMC CLARiiON drives and you'll have to reformat them via some utility like SCSITool... I wouldn't be surprised if they are EMC Clariion drives since the likely source of the drives was known for using EMC equipment in the past for years. That old equipment is being decomissioned now. The only reasonable solution is - get those CLARiiON systems. If they are decommissioned, you can get them cheap. Best regards, Iggy |

Good guess However, I'm expecting that I can deal with the reformatting later... Unfortunately my plan for a controller isn't working out, so I'm back to the drawing board. |
