Default SE7525RP2 - which cpu's?

Hi all,

I have had this mb for a while, SE7525RP2, and I
would like to put a couple of cpu's in it and get it
up and running. My question is which pair gives
the best bang for the buck. When I started watching
cpu prices near the end of last year, the 3.8/2M
were going for around $850 and now they are up
over $950. I have seen 2.8/1M oem's listed for
around $150 each. How much more powerfull
are the 3.8's over the 2.8's in a file server type
environment? The mb will probably end up in a
2U rack mount with 8 hard drives. Should I just
save the money on the cpu's and put it toward
ram and hd tech?

thanks,
charles....

I doubt you would see significant improvement from faster CPUs or more
CPU cache, while RAM helps file servers. So does learning how to tune
the system, but that's another issue. If you will be hitting this server
hard go big on memory, and unless you go with real SCSI drives look hard
at software RAID rather than firmware implementations.

Any ideas on what scsi hardware to get and the final configuration?
Remember, bigger hd space is better for me.

thanks,
charles....
