OT Firefox/BabelFish messing up Japanese translations?
It has always worked correctly, up until just yesterday.
When I enter a group of boxes/squares that means something in Japanese and then hit "translate", in the translation box, those boxes turn into English looking (HTML?) code before being "translated" by BabelFish. And all it does is return a duplicate of those codes. It has worked perfectly up until yesterday. I would take some Japanese code (in the form of boxes with numbers inside) to BabelFish, and BabelFish would (poorly) translate that code into English. Like I said, now the browser does some pre-translation of those boxes into English character codes (looks like HTML), then the translation comes back as a useless duplicate. This is a page with lots of examples. http://www10.plala.or.jp/miyazawa/namazu/pdfidx.html Before today, I could just grab some of those boxes that include two numbers and plug them into BabelFish to get the Japanese to English translation. Now, some pre-translation occurs that changes those boxes into what might be HTML code before BabelFish tries to translate it, and it fails. I'm using Firefox 10.0.2. Maybe I will do a Windows restore and check that, before doing the latest Firefox update. |

Next time I will test with Internet Explorer, too. and toss the copy/paste buffer to it that way. Not sure exactly what you mean, but... The Japanese square text looked okay coming out of the Windows clipboard. It looked okay when pasted into the BabelFish text entry box, before translation. The problem occurred when I hit the BabelFish "translate" button. That's when the Japanese square text in that box was changed into what looked like HTML code numbers. And then, after clicking "translate", the results box showed a duplicate of that code (normal behavior when the translation engine does not recognize the text as being the source language). FWIW, a note to newbies... Having backup copies of Windows is the most marvelous thing in my PC World. I think starting in Windows 95. Never looked back. Paul |
