USB to centronics cable
Hi Guys
I have upgraded my PC to a M3N78 Pro. Unfortunatly my old printer a Samsung (lazer) ML-1210 requires a parrellel connection. Someone sugested that I get the above USB cable. Computer boots up and finds new hardware but installing the printer driver does not work. The driver is available when printing from word. Do I have to get a later driver software (which appears to be not available) or must I get a parrellel card. There are no instructions with the cable just a usless mini cd that dosn't auto run |

What above USB cable, a ParrUSB conversion? OK - think I know what you're saying. You can't print, but see a driver (Microsoft's) with W4W. I don't use autorun or none of that extra. I do, however, know what it takes to pull a drivers-only directory off Samsung's disc and point Windows to them. Get the drivers off the disc (same as Samsung's support site), or find somebody that knows how to work with a disc. You don't have a "parallel problem" - unless you're BIOS parallel port settings are off their defaults. Unlikely. |

This printer worked fine on th old mother board using the parallel port ( Asus M2V-MX) I thought that if the software that came with the printer pre-dated USB standards (I mean that printers are USB now). The driver software would not use the USB or configure it automaticaly. So each time I print the driver looks for a parallel port by default. There are no later drivers that I can see and I have seen printer drivers that ask at instalation do you want USB or Parallel. I have the software that came with it and I did try a download yesterday from there site. No diffrent. Desmond. |

I have the software that came with it and I did try a download yesterday from there site. No diffrent. Sorry. See what you mean now. I'm fine with parallel-port printers -- feel naked w/out one. I'd think to get that parallel port up and going. And to do that you're going to have to get around ASUS's thankful bit of non-inclusive hardware (appears they didn't give you a header ribbon, from what I can see of its reviews). Bit of a PITA. Bite the bullet. Sabrent looks interesting, although plain and simple header to the MB is the "fool-proof" way (haven't messed with with USBParallel, personally). Me - I might hunt around for the cable, pay shipping, wait, all that happy crap. Good side is the MB will actually have an honest-to-god parallel port. Here's some comments I'm using -- No external parallel port (I use a dongle to license CAD software), so I have to find a cable to run from the headers to an empty PCI slot opening. Sabrent USB to parallel converter (DB25, not Centronics; more useful that way) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...el%20converter No parallel port on the backplate and no L-bracket with a parallel port in the box to plug into onboard parallel connector. |

My USB to serial cable needed a driver to convert what is essentially one serial device to another. You are going from serial to parallel. Note also that while my cable works fine with both my desktop and laptop there were a lot of reports that it would not run with other computers. Since this was for a particular application on a particular ham radio, there is no way to know if it was a genetic failure. |
