Two-tone siren and shutdown...why?
I'm getting the two-tone "police style" siren on startup. I cant work out
exactly why but there's a possibility that my cpu temp probe is faulty - it sometimes gives readings of -127 degrees but when I remove the mobo and test things outside the case environment, it is ok. Right now it's doing nothing but give me the siren on startup. What factors cause this? |

What factors cause this? havent a clue, i remember there was a list of what the beeps meant that someone on the net possibly even this group gave me http://bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awardbeep.htm check it out Repeating high/low as you desribed generally is CPU as you suspect, maybe it is a faulty mboard however your beep could be repeating so it may be memory, try changing it into a different bank (thats what my initial problem was lol) if it isnt memory i would test CPU on another board, or/and test another CPU on that board if you can. |

Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty confident it's not a memory issue. I know my cpu fan speed is a little low, perhaps too low for the bios's liking. I think I'll stick a high rpm fan on the "cpu_fan" mobo connector. This has been a good reason for me to stop using my main PC and finally order an antec PSU anyways. It's a lot less hassle when 1 pc is on the blink and you've got two other in the house. I recommend everyone to buy a cheap PC to act as a server. Don't worry about keyboard, monitor or mouse - you can use remote connection to run programs/make changes etc. It's a godsend. |
