Addonics CardBus USB 2.0 adapter

Are there any driver conflicts in Device Manager?

Do you have the latest BIOS for your laptop?

Have you downloaded the latest drivers from the manufacturer?

If this doesn't help, I would figure out which manufacturer's chipset
this device uses (Device Manager - Universal Serial Bus controllers)
I have a D-Link Cardbus to USB 2.0 adaptor that uses an NEC chipset,
and I have had absolutely no problems using it with my Toshiba 1415.
I have not had to disable the USB 1.1 ports at all - I sometimes use
both USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 ports at the same time (mouse). I have
burned many DVDs and used external hard drives with no problem.

If your adaptor does not use an NEC chipset, you might try the D-Link
card instead.

Did the card come with a separate power supply? Have you plugged it in?

I have a similar card, and on two laptops (including the Inspiron 2100), it
WILL NOT work reliably without external power EVEN if the connected device
has its own power.

I got this just before the 2650s were discontinued. However, I checked
and saw the current BIOS is A13, and I only had A05, so did do the
update.

I had. However, I emailed the company, and they sent me even newer
drivers (I was shocked to hear back so quickly). The only change is that
now I can click on my USB flash drive in Windows Explorer and then click
on another drive and browse there. However, I still cannot burn to my
external USB DVD burner, and I get a freeze if I try to copy a file to
the USB flash drive.

They do appear to be NEC.

I updated by extracting the drivers to a folder, then launching
W_Setup.exe, and rebooting.

BTW, the new BIOS setup still does not show anything about USB.
