Looks like what we speculated is true. The 9800GTX is only slightly faster
than the 8800GTS. Its HSF is similar to the 8800GTS unit, with the slanted
fan. http://www.pconline.com.cn/diy/graph...1243353_5.html

LOL. If there was any better example of trying to fleece people for
something that's no better than what went before than the nVidia 9x00
series cards, I've yet to find it.

In the video card industry, the expectations are just higher. If Intel or
AMD released a new CPU that performed 5-10% better than the old one, they
would be treated like geniuses. Not to mention the tremendous performance
gains in going from DDR2 to DDR3 for system RAM...

The first thing that comes to mind when reading this review makes me realize
that I've seen larger variations in gaming and synthetic benches between the
various brands and flavours of the various 8800GTX and G92 8800GTS
offerings. Hell, two 9600GT's in SLI do about the same as the 9800GTX. Not
very impressive for a "flagship" product. Normally one expects to see the
real gains at higher resolutions, but the 1920x1200 runs show basically the
same % increase as the 1440x900 runs. The World in Conflict bench is truly
depressing.

The gains you speak of should come with the gt200 but nvidia will hold off
on this release whilst it dominates ATI especially with the upcoming
9800x2....Estimated release may be around the sasme time as the ATI R700
range (June 08)....will these cards power through crysis ... well, estimated
performance gain over current cards is +40%...so have to wait.

The upcoming 9800X2 appears to perform worse than the 3870X2. Even though a
single 8800GTS outperforms a single 3870, nVidia's dual-GPU implementation
is hobbled by poor drivers and slower clock speed.

The 9800GTX is a victim of inappropriate market branding. In the past, this
kind of refresher product would be called 8850 or 8900.
