Pixma MP600 can't scan

Looks like Canon gets this a lot, it's on their FAQ list. Not much of
a solution, though....

Turn the little wheel to "scan", push the button, nothing happens!

Using Windows Vista, which doesn't have a "scanner wizard." How do I
start a scan from the computer side? I still use an old copy of
coreldraw, which has a twain driver, but that won't work either.

I use XP, but my MP600 worked right from the box without reference to the
little wheel, once I had selected the printer. Corel DRaw 12 uses
FileAcquireAcquire to launch scanning software supplied with the
printer.
