I ran it on the problematic USB flash stick for about twelve/12 hours in
a very old, updated Windows XP Pro SP3. No problems.

That's good, have you tried copying files on the XP machine to see if
it's any faster than on the Mac? You'll probably want to turn off
write caching in the settings for an accurate test.

It had to format and use its own file system(?).

It probably just writes a known pattern of bits from the start to the
end of the disk, then checkes they match later. I doubt it bothers
with a file system.

You could probably do something similar from the terminal in linux
with the dd command, though I'm not exactly sure how you'd identify
where any problems were specifically. No doubt posting in one of the
Linux groups would reveal a wealth of methods with varying lengths
of command line complexity. md5sum would at least tell you if the
data matched 100%.

The only thing difference was yesterday was a cooler weather. I
might need to rerun the test when it is hot like next weekend when the
heat wave returns.

It looks like I reproduced it in the hot weather (mid 80s F degrees in
my room with the outdoor's temperature in the mid 90s F degrees):

01:26:27.85 - Whole test pass #1 complete. Restarting entire operation.
....

I am trying another 32 GB USB flash drive (new; Patriot) to see if does
the same to see if the old drive is the problem.

So far, I could not reproduce the new Patriot 32 GB USB flash drive in
the heat. It also got hot too, but no problems from the tester software.
I guess we can confirm that this SP one has problems after a long usage
with the hot temperatures.

Perhaps, the error was pretty small but maybe occours more often with
normal use. Is the new drive any better on your Mac with HFS?

I have not tried it instensively yet. I assume the reproducable errors
with the tool was related to it on the USB flash drive. I guess I will
try again later on MacBook Pro with Time Machine's backup.

So, memtest86 type to test?

There's a fairly well written program for Windows that does
that. Can't remember the name and I had some trouble
finding it, but it's on my Windows machine, so I'll try to
post from there later.

Very decent little ute.

Pity about the truly memorable name |-(

Some speed data would be useful tho.

Is it me or is it gone now? If it is gone, then does anyone have its
installer somewhere else? I think I have a somewhat new 2 GB USB flash
drive that is getting corrupted FAT32 files and need to know if it is a
bad drive or not. Mac OS X's Disk Utility and Windows' chkdsk tools had
to repair them and found tons of corruptions.

Actually, it was free from Vizio. I guess they used cheap stuff! :/
Anyways, I found my local copy though. I ran its test and no problems.
Weird. I formatted it and will try again later.
