Seagate warranty replacements: not necessarily the same model
A couple of years ago I returned a failed ST32000641AS under warranty
and received in its place an ST2000DM001 (similar specs); the latter model normally has only a 2-year warranty, but the replacement they sent has the remainder of the original drive's 5-year warranty. Now I have just returned an ST2000DM003 and received a second ST2000DM001 (7200rpm vs. the original's 5900rpm). Not complaining, simply announcing. Perce |

Haven't had any of my Samsungs fail. |

The warranty center takes whatever they have in stock or can obtain from the factory. All they have to do is match the replacement on specs. Nothing bars them from giving you a replacement with better specs. I doubt the warranty center carries every model that has been made or even every model that is currently being manufactured. They only need to carry models in stock that will cover everything made in the last 5 years and today. A lot of products have differing model numbers with [almost] no real difference between the products. |

The ST2000DM001 is a later series than the ST32000641AS; I think it's one of the 1TB/platter models. If someone were really picky about having the 5900rpm drive for its "green" characteristics, s/he might be ticked off about receiving a 7200rpm one in its place. Perce |
