DVD-ROM Drive Can't Run Burned CDsI
My Toshiba DVD-ROM SD M1212 with Win 98SE runs OEM software CDs and OEM music CDs with no problem whatsoever, but will not run burner CDs. I just bought a Knoppix CD which it will not run. The drive light blinks about 50 times and then stays on. - My latest burn was a copy of the Knoppix disk using a Verbatim CD-R silver sided disk at 8X. The Toshiba will not run it, the burner an ARTEC WRR-52X can read it using Windows Explorer. - Toshiba Support said quality CD-Rs made by Maxell, Fuji Film or Verbatim should work. - I have some old burned Verbatim CD-R blue sided data disks which the drive can read using Windows Explorer. - I;m using Nero 5.5.9.24 (Nero Express). I;d like to make a copy of the Knoppix CD which will run on the Toshiba, drive, and I thank you for any suggestions. Walt Ezyk |

You just have to experiment with various brands. (Can't you get the blue sided Verbatim?) Also, 8x may not be the optimum burn speed. Try burn at like 24x. It's always worth a go. -- Paul (Need a lift she said much obliged) ------------------------------------------------------- Stop and Look http://www.geocities.com/dreamst8me/ |

Walt Ezyk It's unusual to find a modern drive which is selective about media for playback, but apparently your Toshiba qualifies. Since you know it reads Verbatim DataLife, try copying onto such a disc or a near equivalent such as a T-Y cyanine (blue dye). If you plan to use that drive for CD writing, you may want to explore more available, less costly media which it will write well. As Paul Heslop suggested, trying a different write speed is probably worthwhile. A typical medium/drive combination will optimize at 8-16x writing. Mike -- http://www.mrichter.com/ |

Mike Richter is a LIAR ----------------------------------- Deirdre Straughan (Roxio) is a LIAR ----------------------------------- Mike Richter (The Slimiest Lying Friggin ****) crapped: A typical medium/drive combination will optimize at 8-16x writing. Do you now disagree with Dan? ====================== From: "Dan G" Date: 4/22/03 Subject: Which CDR for media? There is no current media that will perform "best" at 8x and below most all will show an increase in read errors when burned that slow on a high speed drive. I get the best quality burns at 40x on TY(Fuji) media .(52x burner) Lowering the burn speed has no effect on the error rates below 40x, but will increase the error rates below 20x. ====================== From: Mike Richter (The Slimiest Lying Friggin ****) Date: 4/22/03 Subject: Which CDR for media? However, in general I agree with you. ====================== .. ---------------------------------------------- Mikey, you are The Slimiest Lying Friggin SOB! ---------------------------------------------- Mike Richter, were you born with "Scam Artist" emblazoned on your face? -------------------------------------- (Mike Richter, any Material Connection w/ Roxio?) |
