Default SAN Storage Switching on Unix

Hi,

I have an existing SUN server that has a SAN storage installed on it.
It also has softwares like Appwrox(scheduler), Taradata (database
client), Samba Share and a few more installed on it.

Now suppose that I have a new unix server server and i switch the same
SAN store from the old unix box and attach it to the new unix box. Will
all the software installed work as is or will I have to reinstall all
of them?

Thanks.

You shouldnt have to. However, I am not familiar with the software apps you
mentioned except Samba.
If they tie-in their licensing to the host id or such, you would have to
relicense teh software apps at the very least.

You shouldn't have to reinstall anything that was installed on the SAN
storage however you will need to track down config files which may be
in /etc or /usr/local/etc. Also, often shared libraries will be
installed or links created in /usr/lib or /usr/local/lib when the
various apps were installed so you'll need to account for them.
Finally, there would of course be the application startup scripts with
associated links.

Vic Engle
