Default Maxtor External Drive

I have a Maxtor external drive 160Gb with 8mb of cache 7200RPM it comes with
a usb2 and firewire interface from what I read usb2 can do 480mb and
firewire is 400mb anyone know which one gives overall best performace ?

My workstation supports both fw & usb2

Firewire generally gives better performance than USB2. Why not try both
and see which is faster for you.


The reason I'm asking because I dont have the time to do testing myself.

Firewire.

You may not find that there is much difference in practice tho.

My workstation supports both fw & usb2


The main downside with firewire is that you cant boot from the external drive.

You may be able to do that with USB2 if the PC motherboard can do that.
