Shortened 9800GT "Green Edition"

Card is really short and has no external power connector. Wonder if we'll see a passively cooled version by one of the board vendors? -- "War is the continuation of politics by other means. It can therefore be said that politics is war without bloodshed while war is politics with bloodshed." |

Take a close look at a 8800, 9600 or 9800 series card. Then look at the diagram. The distance from the end of the of PCIe connector to the end of the PCB is a LOT less than on a reference 88xxx, 96xx or 98xx card. |

I wound up using the Dremel tool to make room in my Antec 180 case which had an 8800GT in it. They are stupidly large. I don't know what case fits these brutes if you're using all the SATA drive bays. |

The 3.5" internal drive cage is removable for a good reason. :-) Had to do
the same with my Lian Li mid-tower to fit the GTX 285. Now the 2x 80mm intake fans that used to cool the hard disks are cooling the video card. You should have seen the old Quantum3D cases, which were properly designed around the video cards, not around the CPU. -- "War is the continuation of politics by other means. You should have seen the old Quantum3D cases, which were properly designed around the video cards, not around the CPU. Luckily, the 3.5" drive cage on the Antec had a 1" removable plastic spacer in between the drive cage and the front of the case where the air screens are. This got removed and I cut some slots and drilled new screw holes to mount the bay back about 1", so it's now flush with the front of the case. It gave me just enough to fit my eVGA GTX 260 SSC card. I'm running twin 150Gig Velociraptors in RAID0 in that cage. In the lower cage are a 640Gig WD 32Mb cache data drive, and a 1 Gig Hitachi drive for daily Acronis imaging. |
