Link to P4 Hyperthreading patch for XP
Oh, you mean this? I didn't even know there was a problem!
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;815227 Why on earth don't they let people download it? If it's performance related, I would think it would be publically available for anyone to download. ~ Adrian ~ --- "The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who don't have it." Probably a developer made a quick solution for people who can't wait ( that have a problem that is important enough to try a not very well tested fix). I would rather wait for SP2. ~ Adrian ~ --- "The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who don't have it." George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) Regards R. Greve. |

I've noticed a problem. Every once, in a while, when I go to execute IE 6
my CPU will hang. Checking task manager shows two instances of Regsvr32 both using about 50% of processor time. Almost as if the virtual and real processors are fighting over that process. - Adrian stood up, at show-n-tell, and said: Oh, you mean this? I don't have SP1 installed. From what I read in the KB, this is
'supposedly' only a problem for SP1 machines. However, this is not my imagination - Adrian stood up, at show-n-tell, and said: I've noticed a problem. If they fix it in the next verison of windows, they might even get more of your $, right? I'd try one of these (same thing, alternate locations): http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;820128 http://www.msfn.org/uploads/Files/Wi...28-x86-ENU.rar -or- http://srv02.vnr.de/imperia/md/conte...ix_Package.exe http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel....html&lp=de_en |

Right, Adrian. Microsoft users are not the only beta testers around.
RedHat has gone through about 3 versions - 7.2, 8 now 9 - each with plenty of fixes to patch in since WinXP appeared on the scene. Difference being, I don't pay full retail price for the O.S., like the MS beta testers do. It's completely free to download a Linux ISO image and burn it to CD. But granted, there are bugs with all O.S's... ~ Adrian ~ --- "A man can't be too careful in the choice of his enemies. " Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) |

Yep but who is PAYING $100+ a seat to beta test the OS? Interesting that MS is still selling the same version yet linux has had at least 3 newer versions, not just patching at the old one? And the list at MS is just the problems they admit existed at the time of SP1! What about all the problems SP1 caused? :-) -- Stacey |
