Intel(R) Celeron(R) M = First Generation Intel Centrino?
Hi there, I bought a notebook PC, it has Centrino logo (sticker) on it. However, the computer system shows that the processor is Intel(R) Celeron(R) M / x86 Family 6 Model 9 Stepping 5 GenuineIntel~1496MHz I was told that Intel(R) Celeron(R) M is the First Generation of Intel Centrino, is this true? Thanks! |

No. Centrino is a CPU+chipset+wireless *package* not a CPU. And as I recall the Celeron M came after Centrino was out, to appeal to people who thought that the "M" made their Celeron faster. To put it very broadly, the Pentium M is P-III technology, with enhanced cache, and some but not all of the P4 instructions added to the core. Unfortunately that's only useful as a sense of where the parts came from, I guess. -- bill davidsen SBC/Prodigy Yorktown Heights NY data center http://newsgroups.news.prodigy.com |
