Default NOT trolling, but CL SBLive has some serious problems!!

I know this has been discussed before, and I'm not trying to be critical of
peoples' choices - what works for you works for you, and that's great.
However, the never-ending problems and little nit-picky issues with SBLive
cards never ceases to amaze me. How in the hell did this company gain such
prominence, when virtually all of their products are medicocre at best, and
usually rank well behind other products in their price range?? Any time I
bump my CPU settings (mobile XP2500+), my speakers start crackling at
random. In my previous machine, I always had to turn my speakers off during
reboot, or there would be a HUGE pop that sounded like my speaker diaphrams
were gonna jump out on my desk. I had to ditch a wireless NIC because the
SBLive started stuttering incessantly when I tried to use it. The
compatibility issues got so bothersome on my son's computer that I actually
swapped his SBLive card out for a $17 5.1 Chaintech card with a CM chip. He
lost some low end, but our frustration went away.

Other than replacement, is there a fix for the crackling I get when I
overclock? I'm using an Abit NF7 mobo.

Thank you,

jakesnake

Because they are a monopoly.

Used to be a megga issue with the Via chipsets, it's almost always
down to [ latency ] . . . . the way the card hogs the bus. Became
known as the " 686B bug "

try all or a combination of these three :
disable - PCI master read / cache / and timeout.

and have a look at Georges site :
http://www.georgebreese.com/sites/ge...ware/#CREATIVE

and read the readme first :
http://www.georgebreese.com/sites/ge...010_readme.htm

Patch for Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! and Audigy-series drivers
This patch will disable the "turbo mode" feature of newer Creative
drivers, which will solve "crackling" or distortion problems for some
users.

Current Version 0.10, April 16 2003

I've had my SBLive for years now and no bother. it doesn't seem to mind
being O/C'd and no crackles or pops for now. it did have a prob with CM04
but that's disappeared for now.

There was a lot of problems with my Sblive in my BP6 the creative drivers
were not SMP compatible the only driver that would work was the STD
microshaft 2000 one.
The release of the p4 with hypercrapping forced creative to fix the ****e
house drivers.
The hardware has never given me any problems even with a overclocked pci
bus.
The Bp6 was running 41 mhz and it was never a problem the std 2000 driver
and the Linux driver worked fine, I now have that card in a Dual Amd 3200
Iwill MPX2 running at 42.5 mhz pci and running XP with the newest drivers
from the creative and it has never been a problem.
The problems your having are most likely due to bad Via chipsets, there is a
lot of hardware that won't run on Via or Sis chipsets that works fine on
Intel or even AMD ones.
