NVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M for gaming?

Hi there,

Has anyone had any experience with mobile NVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M cards
for gaming? How does it compare speed-wise with a Geforce Go 7900gtx?
Any problems with drivers and running games?

I'm looking at getting one for OpenGL programming mostly but would like
it to play games well.

Both GPUs are identical.

Any problems with drivers and running games?

Drivers come from the notebook manufacturers so the quality and currency
depends on how good their support is.

I'm looking at getting one for OpenGL programming mostly but would like
it to play games well.

For OpenGL programming a Geforce usually is more than good enough,
especially since OpenGL drivers of Gf and Quadro are identical. You only
want Quadro if you need things like AA lines or certified drivers to get
software support.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that NVidia provided unified drivers
(even for laptops), this is not the case? The laptop manufacturers
provide them now?

I also heard that you get much faster performance in OpenGL with Quadro
cards? Is that a thing of the past?

They provide them since ever, Nvidia never provided drivers for notebook
GPUs (except the 7800GTX).

That never was the case. Quadro delivers additional functions but that's it.

How strange, why just the 7800GTX? Do you mean they have gone back to
laptop manufacturer drivers for the newer 7900GTX?

I would imagine that having unified NVidia drivers is a big plus for a
laptop. I've had some dodgy offerings from laptop makers in the past.
