partition merge failure
My computer froze up during a partition merge using Partition Magic 8.0. I was merging a logical FAT32 partition containing my data, into the empty primary FAT32 partition (disk 2). Progress was approx 19% and then it froze. Partition Magic attempted to recover the PQRP partition, but froze again.
Below is output from Svend's PqRP utilities. The damage type is '4' so it looks hopeful. I can not find the PTEDIT program on the internet anywhere. I have left the PqRP partition untouched. I am trying to be as careful as possible, so as not to lose anything, but I don't know what to do next. - Joe # # # Findpart, version 4.99 - for Windows. Copyright Svend Olaf Mikkelsen, 1999-2009. Backups can be quite useful at times.... DON'T try and repair your problem disk. DON'T write anything to it. Try and find a recovery program that will hopefully search for and find the original partition, and then extract your data files (on to the 2TB drive Rod thinks you should have). The hope is that the original FAT table is still intact, and so fragmentation information will still be there. Once you have all your data recovered, and verified, you can 'play' with the original disk. Your boot sector partition information would be far easier to understand if it was in Hex Michael www.cnwrecovery.com |

Agreed, you can get 2TB internal drives almost daily near the $59 mark now. Newegg has external 2TB drives for $79 almost daily. |
