Default Epson CX5400. Scan Function and Status Monitor gone belly up?

Hello everyone. A few days ago my Epson Cx5400 wouldnt scan and the
Status Monitor wouldnt recognize how much ink in the cartridges.
It seems that it cant find the Twain32 driver that I installed for
scan and the Status Monitor gives me a communication/error on the top
left side of the Maintenance screen.

Ive been in constant communication with Epson and have done everything
and deleted every single reference to epson according their
instructions.

The funny thing is that the print picture function worked well for a
couple of days and then started erroring. I know the Scan camera
itself is ok because the copy buttons for b/w, color on the unit
itself is fine and the print out is as expected. But the scan button
on the unit is out as well.

Can anyone please offer an idea that I might try to restore
functionality to the scanner? or should I just relegate it to copy
functions only and find another unit.?

And if I go for another Unit can anyone reccomend a reliable unit of
any brand with similar features to the Epson CX 5400

I deeply thank you in advance.

IAB
