Default System Will Not Start

Current system includes ABIT KG-7 MB, AMD Athalon 1600+ processor,
100GB WD drives (2), ATI 7500 video card.

At first system would freeze periodically, especially while running MS
Office 2003. In the past few days, the system would freeze during
startup. After hitting the reset, the system would do nothing. By
removing and reinstalling the power cord after three or four minutes I
could get the system to restart. Now, when I power up the system,
there is no video drive, the disk access light is on for several
minutes and then goes out and there is no POST signalling (Beeps,
etc.). When I hold down the power switch, the system powers off.
When I depress the power switch, nothing happens. To get the system to
show any sign of life I have to wait and then replug the power cord.

I have removed all option cards, tried a second video card and only
one of the hard files to try to isolate the problem. Nothing changes.

All voltages measurements are normal. I tried a replacement power
supply to no avail.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

remove all the PCI cards and install only the video card. please check
whether you connected the power supply 20 pin into the motherboard
properly. takeout the 20 pin and install it again.

As indicated in my original message, I did all you
suggested. I'm still looking for a solution.

Abit has a bad track with failures as far as I know and if switching
power supplies still don't help, you can rule that out. Maybe if you
have a spare motherboard compatible with the rest of your components,
try that and see what happens.

Check and make sure you are not overloading the circuit that the
computer is plugged into. This includes wall sockets on the circuit.

You might also check the motherboard for damaged parts for example
leaking or bulging capacitors.

They may look like the ones in this article
