Default is an acer laptop worth buying?

I have done some more research and would defiitely advise you NOT to
buy ACER. The PC magazine user surveys give an A rating to Fujitsu,
Apple and IBM and B to Dell. Acer have moved up from e to d. In my
own case they have not repaired my laptop because they claimed
Accidental Damage. I brought in an independent engineer from
MasterCare who examined it and agreed that the fault was not accidental
damage. Indeed, they have repaired other ACERs with this problem. My
insurance company examined the ACER and decided to supply me with a new
Fujitsu on the grounds that this would be a more cost effective solution
than repairing an ACER of dubious quality.

I have real doubts about Acer Laptops. Like another reply my Acer power
socket fell off after less than 10 months from new. The laptop was not
damaged and was kept protected in laptop holder, not a mark on the
whole machine.) Acer UK are quoting nearly £400 to repair. I think
I'll spend the money on another laptop, Acer are not very well made!!

I purchased a Acer two Sundays ago. The next day, I returned to the
store becasue the battery failed to charge. It was replaced. Then the
next day, I returned again becasue the Laptop just would not start. I
exchanged it to another Acer, which is a mistake. It only lasted 3
days and again would not start. Nothing happens when I pressed the
power button, not even attemp to boot.

I finally exchange it to a IBM, and ended up paying a lot more.

I was lucky it failed so fast.

Also, I learnt a mistake not to buy expensive electronics from small
shop without a good refund policy.

You are correct about they both assembled in China, but one can feel
the difference in quality. It has been over 2 weeks now, and I have
no problem with the IBM.
