54% Buy Rate
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...730-_-06042011
This drive is very nice, but it is 500 bucks. The thing that caught my eye was, in the review column on the right it says........... 54% Buy Rate After viewing this page, 54% of customers who made a purchase before leaving bought this item. I don't believe that. |

54% Buy Rate

Most likely it was because either you wanted to find that drive because you wanted to buy it and you already trust Newegg from prior purchases or you're perusing around to find a price range for the product - so, yeah, about half a chance that you're there to buy. While Newegg doesn't have rock bottom pricing, they're at the low end, they have established a trusted online vendor presence, and return buyers like their support. As an online vendor, they're overall pretty good. So there's a good chance that you're looking for something that you already decided to buy. If you're one of those looking for specialty hardware then there's even a greater chance that you're there to buy if they are within the price range you will accept a price. With a more select and smaller populace searching for a particular hardware device, and also them belonging to a group that is willing to sacrifice more of their money for bleeding or front edge technology, it's pretty easy for a minor fluctuation in behavior to exhibit a large percentage change. A "membership" of 1 person can easily claim their enrollment has doubled after just 1 new enlistment. Go do a guided search at Newegg that involves a hell of a lot more users, like for a hard disk. Go look at the hard disk product category, keep picking the groups with the highest numbers: highest number of hard disk types, highest number in capacity, highest number in manufacturer, and so on (i.e., go find the hard disk size, type, maker, etc that is marketing to the most users). You'll see the buy rate go down. More users where looking around at pricing and wandering around changing their search criteria to match up their wants with their wallet. You have a larger populace looking at that product, and for a common product where they are price shopping and more likely to look at other products trying to shave off the price. Folks looking at SSDs have already decided to overpay for storage hoping to trade more of their money for performance. They're motivated buyers. Folks looking at hard disks are more likely to shop around. So who are we going to believe? You who distrust a statistic that you didn't generate? Or the vendor who has the statistics that are easily captured by their site and store scripts? |

I don't believe that. Well, I guess I do believe it.... But it got me to wondering (since I already have one of their 120 GB drives), is there any advantage or disadvantage to running 2 120 GB drives in RAID 0, vs one of these monsters? I would think the 2 120's would be faster (can anyone confirm this?) and would be about $100 cheaper. |
