Default Fried CPU...?

System specs: MSI KT4V mother board
AMD Athlon xp 2100 (says on the chip set even though
boot screen says +1500...)
512 DDR 3200 (400mhz)

I think that's all I need to post involving specs... Now the
frustrating part..
I attempted to overclock my cpu through the BIOS (default drivers. Did
not flash)
In the "Advanced Chipset Features" I bumped the "SDRAM Frequency" from
"auto" to "333mhz" even though I had the option to bump it even
further to 400mhz which is what pc3200 (400mhz) is suppose to
handle...
I then went into my "Frequency/Voltage Control." I set the "Spread
Spectrum" to "disabled". Set the "CPU FSB clock" to "200mhz" with
280mhz being the max avalible. I thought this was odd sense my mobo
supports up to 333mhz FSB... I then set the "CPU Ratio" to (if I
remember right) to "9.0" which would following the formula "Host Clock
x Core/Bus ratio = CPU core speed" ie. 200mhz x 9.0 = 1.8... This
would over clock it to a 1.8ghz. Up from 1.3ghz (xp 1500) which was
the default clock speed. In the end when I rebooted I got a black
screen... And have had one eversense. Ive got power and the drive
light on but no boot screen. I didnt make a boot disk either... Im
assuming I blew a chip. And if thats all, I consider myself lucky.
On the otherhand it looks like I might have to take it into PC Club
and have them diagnose it for 69. I dont want to do this and have
them run me in circles. I would like to know if anyone has had any
experience in this situation. Would my DDRAM be mal-affected along
with a blown CPU? Can that happen? What about my mobo? Im willing
to replace the xp+2100 but anything else starts to get out of hand...
I also used thermal paste between the chipset and fan. Any help would
be appreciated.

Sys specs: MSI 6712 ATX Mainboard KT4V series
XP Athlon 2100 (boot screen says its a 1500..) I check
chipset though and it says +2100
512 pc3200 (400mhz) DDRAM

I tried to overclock my chipset through the bios. I went into the
"Advanced Chipset Features" and went into "DRAM Timing Controls". I
set the "SDRAM Frequency" to 333mhz even though 3200 is supposed to be
able to clock at 400mhz... I then went into the "Frequency/Voltage
Control" and set the "Spread Spectrum" to "disabled" which your
supposed to do when overclocking. I then went into "CPU FSB Clock"
and adjusted the the frequency to 200mhz (280mhz being the possible
max) even though my mobo is supposed to support up to 333mhz FSB...
Then I adjusted the CPU Ratio using the following formula Host Clock
x Core/Bus Ratio = CPU core speed. I set the CPU Ratio to 9.0 which
would give the following result using the formula above. 200mhz x 9.0
= 1.8ghz. This is still within the +2100 range of my cpu
+1500(1.3ghz) being the default setting. In the end when I saved and
rebooted it gave me a black screen. I didnt make an emergency boot
disk either if that would have helped... Im trying to avoid taking it
to PC Club and having them diagnose it for $$, so Im here. Does
anyone have any idea what happened? Could my DDR beaffected if I
fried my chip? WHat about my mobo? Ill consider myself lucky if I
only need to replace my chipset. To top it off I have power but no
boot screen to bios... May the force be with you! : )

First thing you want to do is reset your CMOS. Simply unplug the PC from the
AC mains, remove the 3V battery for 10 minutes and replace it. Enter the
BIOS and set default settings. Save and exit. The PC should now boot. Dust
off the owners manual, paying extra close attention to FSB settings and
jumpers on the motherboard. Initial settings should be Host clock at 133MHz
and the ratio set to 13 for a speed of 1733 MHz, which is the true speed of
the XP 2100+. Leave all other settings as default for the time being.
