Default Sound card\CD-ROM driver

I am working on a Packard Bell Legend 2036, Model # PB431A. My friend
tried formatting the hard drive and lost the driver for the sound card
which the CD-ROM is connected to. Does anyone know where I can find
this driver?

Thanks

I do not know how far you have proceeded
It most likely has sound16A which can be found
on priorityonesupport.com
I am assuming you are into windows already
Then again maybe you also need a boot disk to see the cdrom

I actually have both

If you are in windows 95 or 98
The drivers are there
Add new HD wizard you choose
Sound I believe Washington Sound Galaxy or something
like that
CDROM Panasonic 2x proprietary which
is also under add new hardware

Trying to install Win 95, but it can't find the

CD-ROM device. I'm
not for sure what the sound card make and model

is. The chip on the
isa sound card has: CS4231-KL EP and JTAPUD9403.

There is an FCC ID:
138-MMSN811. I have tried to find out something

about it but I guess
I'm not looking in the right places. Any help

would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hmmm...a pre-1995 486 VLB-ISA mobo....
Most likely you have an isa soundcard w/ide.
....
If you are installing Windows 3.1/DOS or Linux
you need to open up your computer case
and deterimine (and tell us)
the make and model of the soundcard.
Then knowing this you must search for
the proper drivers to install on you
computer.
If you are using Windows 95, just tell the
installation program to search for the
audio card and find the driver for you.

If you are installing Win95 via CD-ROM ( u aren't
installing Windows 95 by diskettes?) you probably
had to make your own startup diskette. I suppose
you created a Windows 95 startup boot disk
that loaded the CD-ROM driver via the config.sys
and the autoexec.bat. I also suppose you are
using an IDE CDROM (not a scsi cdrom ) and
that you loaded the generic ATAPI/IDE CDROM driver
by Oak Technologies ( OAKCDROM.SYS ) but it was
not recognized by the DOS driver. If that is the
case then you might have a non-standard CDROM and
you'll need to tell us the make and model of the
CD-ROM too.

re my assumptions correct?
Walter Lee

Yes your assumptions are correct. But after removing the case I saw
why the generic IDE CD-ROM driver wasn't recognizing the device, the
CD-ROM is connected to the sound card. I knew that I had to find the
driver for the sound card but I wasn't having any luck until I posted
this message. I downloaded the Aztech driver and Win 95 is installed
and everything is running great.

Thanks to all

I have this exact same sound card with the same problem.
Although I managed to download various drivers,
they won't install without windows, and I can't install
windows on my machine because the cd-rom is interfaced
through the sound card.

A catch-22...

Is there a dos driver, that's what I really need...

thanks,

Ed

Don't quote me on this but I think you have to get a seperat driver for the
CD-ROM support in DOS.

The cdrom driver for dos is cdmke.sys
The config should have a line such as
devicehigh=A:\cdmke.sys /D:MSCD0001 /P:630
the auto exec should have line such as
A:\mscdex.exe /D:MSCD001 /M:30

The P:630 switch is for the Sound galaxy and ECH forte
p:340 is for the sound 16a 144 and 144am cars

The Legend 10CD has the 16A and the p:630 switch works
That stumps me but it works

If you need a dos boot disk I have listed on electors site how to
make one to boot all PB systems within reason
or I will be glad to send you one
